Servco’s internship program is an opportunity for top students to gain relevant work experience in various areas. Internship positions are only available in Hawaii. The program offers interns challenging and meaningful work that allows them to demonstrate their abilities, apply knowledge acquired through college courses, and be evaluated for possible future employment opportunities within Servco. Our internships create opportunities for interns to establish important relationships with experienced professionals.

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) internship program which spans over a period of 8 weeks.

The Software Development team at Servco supports the Digital Strategy team by providing technical requirements, technical design, software architecture and programming resources for various types of projects. These include customer-facing web development, native app development, internal business tool web app development as well as backend API and database work. The team is an Agile group of developers that work with many different business departments throughout the organization. Our interns get involved with real projects and, when possible, are mentored and shadowed by experienced team members; however, there are times when the intern will also have to work independently and research their own proposed solutions to real-world problems. The team is energetic, passionate and enthusiastic about their work and committed to delivering quality products.

Responsibilities:

• Participates in a structured learning program covering Servco as an organization and their respective business area
• Works with our digital product team to design, build and deploy user interfaces in a proof of concept and/or live production
• Researches new techniques/frameworks, building new APIs/standalone apps, brainstorming creative solutions to our customers problems and automating deployments
• Develops enhancements to existing internal software applications and/or reports that support our internal and external customers
• Gains exposure to different career opportunities and the corporate environment through meaningful and increasingly responsible work and/or defined project assignments
• Performs clerical functions as assigned to assist department with various projects
• Fulfils various program requirements, makes presentations, and/or participates in additional developmental and skill building opportunities
• Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements:                                  

• Currently enrolled in or graduated within the last 6 months from a college/university program
• Pursuing a degree in Computer Science (or a related field in Math, or Engineering)
• Completion of level 200 or higher Computer Science/Engineering coursework
• Familiarity with web application development frameworks (e.g. .net, react, node) and cloud software development and release platforms (e.g. Github, Jenkins, Visual Studio)
• Familiarity with Agile development
• Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL as well as open standard file formats such as JSON
• Previous experience with volunteer work, school/student activities, leadership roles, etc.
• Computer literate and proficient with Microsoft applications
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities
• Ability to take direction, work with minimal supervision, and complete tasks as assigned
